Advertising in winter – worth it yes or no?

1 minute read

36 members in 7 days…

If you’ve worked with me on your golf club marketing, you’ll know I’ve always been a huge advocate for NOT ‘turning off the taps’ just because it’s winter.

Why?

Firstly, the proof is in the pudding – our sales team converted 36 new members for our golf clubs in the first 7 working days of January this year. Every single one enquired through ads in November and December.

Secondly, because in a high percentage of cases winter should be used as a springboard for the following season, for 3 key reasons:

1. By continuing to advertise you’re keeping in golfers’ minds, so even if they’re not ready to play right now when they are you’ll be the club they think of.

2. Following on from point 1, according to HubSpot research, 95% of your market isn’t ready to buy, so it’s invaluable to ‘position yourself as the trusted choice before customers even start looking’ ready for when they are.

3. A huge portion of clubs do turn the taps off, meaning if you don’t you’ll have even more of an advantage come warmer weather as you’ll be one of the few clubs, if not the only one, in your area potential customers will have seen any messages of substance from since October.

With each member being worth more than £6,000 in lifetime value on average, the investment of keeping your golf club marketing running over the winter is a small price to pay for the potential payoff in the weeks and months that follow.

So, if you’re not advertising already and your course holds up over winter, get started ASAP.

Don’t leave it til April!.
